“Joy and Leo hurry we are going to be late for school” Dad yelled. Leo hurries out the door to the car with his backpack and shoes in his arms while papers and pencils fall out. In the car, Joy sits teary-eyed and biting her nails while thinking of her Science test that she studied for all night but still doesn’t understand. “Stop the car!” Leo suddenly screams, he then sheepishly informs his father that he left his homework in the house. Their Dad stops the car in the driveway and Leo sprints back inside.

Follow Joy and Leo as they learn to embrace their learning disability.

The story will cover Joy at school, and speak to situations where she felt anxiety over directions from a test that she can't understand, where she feels isolated from her friends due to a processing deficiency, and has a meltdown because she isn't doing well with numbers.

​

Leo is also challenged with processing and gets discouraged because he is always the last one finishing assignments or tests.  After struggling with similar challenges, Joy and Leo’s parents get them tested.

They realize they have been struggling with a

learning disability, which makes much of their

symptoms common:

• Anxiety

• Slow processing/ careless mistakes

• Unable to wait their turn

• Daydreaming/ highly distractible

• Not following instructions

• Forgetting/losing things

• Social awkwardness
